I have pushed for yet another trad lead climb, this time at The Roaches. The climb is called Inverted Staircase which is a Diff grade, 22m up, 2 pitch and with 3 stars against it. Great for a beginner.
What a climbing site.
No wonder why many climbers I know talk about it. Such a nice height, beautiful climate during nice summer day, but with not so much protection from the sun on some of the higher pitchers. While seconding someone else leading my shoulders caught a little to much vitamin D and I ended up a little read.
Overall there are some nice steep routs with intense roofs, some cool and wet chimneys and some awesome tough jammy cracks. One key climb to do if you are on this site is The Sloth HVS 5a. This is an impressive 3 star 24m straight up climb with enormous and scary roof. I didn’t have a go at it as it was just not my day. We ended up doing 3 climbs until my hands were just to sweaty and tired to go on.
I have also just found out I have a bit of bad anaemia again which makes me tired too quick sometimes, so it’s just better to step back and chill.
Just outside of the climbing area there is a lovely food place called The Roaches Tea Rooms and Restaurant that can make a vegan food options if you ask at the till. Prices are quiet ok and you can pay with card.
There is loads free parking all along the road towards all climbing sites, but as a norm the earlier you get there the better as climbers like to start early and you don’t want to miss a spot.
Here are some more images from the day.
I just added this web site to my feed reader, excellent stuff. Can’t get enough!
